What if, with the stroke of a pen, you could make a life-long positive impact on the children and teens in our community?

Our youth are in need of programs and activities that encourage responsibility, accountability, and positive motivation. As parents of children who have grown up in our community, we have seen the importance of character building experiences that prepare them to be productive adults. Many of us have the good fortune to be able to provide those experiences for our children. However, many of our neighbors and friends who unfortunately cannot.

The study and practice of the martial arts builds discipline, self-image, responsibility, and other attributes that help our youth become well-grounded, successful, and productive community members as adults. We believe so much in the power of these programs that we have created Phoenix Martial Arts Society, Inc. - a non-profit, 501(C) (3) Charity (PMAS).

PMAS provides all of our students with martial arts training from award winning instructors in a fully inclusive environment where all students can participate regardless of barriers that may place other types of programs out of their reach. We give them the tools they need to succeed in all they wish to accomplish.

It is only through the support of community members like you, dedicated to improving the lives of our youth, that this program is possible. Your tax-exempt donation will support programming, equipment, special event participation fees, and operating expenses. All funds raised directly support the programming offered to students, as all of the instructors are volunteers.

Thank you for your supporting our program, and for supporting healthy futures for youth in our community.

Different styles of karate have their origins in various Asian countries such as China, Japan, Korea, etc. Here at Phoenix Martial Arts Society, we study and train in Isshin-ryu Karate, which was developed in Okinawa by Tatsuo Shimabuku. As master of this style, he was a Ju-dan (10th degree).

Tatsuo Shimabuku formulated Isshinryu by combining his teaching from three different masters: Chotoku Kiyan and Choki Motobu, of Shorin-ryu martial arts, and Chojun Miyagi of Gojo-ryu martial arts. After mastering these styles, he created Isshin-ryu karate. Shimabuku used katas from these three masters, and created a kata himself, to formulate the eight hand katas of Isshin-ryu.

Phoenix Martial Arts Society teaches the traditional katas, as well as effective fighting techniques. Our classes help students develop coordination, balance, posture, and endurance. Classes inspire and develop self discipline, confidence and leadership skills while learning to defend oneself and having a great time!

Our certified instructors will teach age appropriate Isshin-Ryu Karate as well as grappling, judo and self-defense techniques. Each class focuses on the traditional Okinawan karate values and skill sets.
